Lieke Wijnia at Impakt Festival

liekeLieke Wijnia was an intern with the Utrecht Impakt Festival for Audiovisual Arts during the summer of 2006. She was responsible for producing the main exhibition of works by Swiss artist Olaf Breuning. During her three month internship, Lieke liaised with the curator, the artist, the galleries loaning works, and the Centraal Museum, where the exhibition was held. The festival programme, designed by Impakt’s artistic director, had to be practically realised in the museum. Festival ideas and museum rules didn’t always correspond. The challenge was to find practical solutions. The artists’ wishes played an important role in organising museum space – as can be seen from building up the video screens and hanging photographs. “The internship was part of my final year at UCU. It added an important practical dimension to the theoretical frameworks I had studied at UCU. It was great to learn how to work with artists in person, as opposed to just studying works of art. My internship experience was a valuable introduction to the professional art world which I can recommend to everyone.”

Lieke Wijnia (BA 2006, HUM Major) Master Courtauld Institute, London, is a PhD candidate at Tilburg University, 2012+
